Germany’s new photovoltaic installed capacity from January to October: 11.7GW
From January to October 2023, Germany added 11.7 GW of solar installed capacity, with 1.23 GW added in October alone, bringing the country's cumulative installed solar capacity to 79.2 GW.
From a certain perspective, Germany, as the largest economy in the EU, is very representative for photovoltaics and new energy.
Germany installed 1,231 MW of new PV capacity in October, according to the latest data from the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). This compares to 1,050 MW in September 2022 and 706.5 MW in October 2022.
Developers connected 11.7 gigawatts of solar power to the grid in the first 10 months of this year, compared with 6.12 gigawatts in the same period last year. At the end of October, the country’s cumulative solar power generation exceeded 79.2 GW.
Spurred by German incentive programs, more than 606 MW of new rooftop PV systems were installed in October, while 535 MW of ground-mounted PV systems selected under the German tender program were installed in the same month.
The German government has exceeded its installation target of 9 GW this year, but to achieve the cumulative target of 215 GW by 2030, it will require a linear increase of 1,578 MW per month, a threshold that has not been reached in any month this year.
