Mandatory installation order! EU Solar Roof Initiative Upgrade!

A coalition of 18 organizations urged EU member states to set requirements for the installation of solar energy in all new, renovated and existing non household buildings.

In a letter recently sent to the EU Energy Minister and the European Parliament, the signatory wrote that accelerating the development of solar energy in buildings is crucial to supporting the energy security in the coming winter and improving the resilience of the European energy system.

In order to reduce dependence on fossil natural gas, as part of the REPowerEU plan, the European Commission earlier this year proposed an EU solar roof initiative.

In order to maximize the potential of this initiative in the EU Building Energy Efficiency Directive, the letter urged the installation of solar energy in all new and renovated buildings.

"This is a fruit at your fingertips, and a solution without regret has been adopted by several member states." The letter was signed by SolarPower Europe, a trade agency. The letter quoted data from the European Joint Research Center, saying that building solar PV can meet 25% of Europe's annual power demand, which is equivalent to the sum of power consumption in Germany and Poland.

Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, said: "The solution to reduce electricity bills, ensure energy security, and achieve climate goals is on top of us - rooftop solar energy. The installation of solar energy in all buildings can provide support for the rapid launch of efficient, decarbonized solar buildings, and encourage the expansion of necessary green labor."

According to these organizations, in order to support the on-site solar energy order, the regulatory framework must reflect the comparative value of solar energy and the cumulative cost of retail electricity or natural gas. These organizations said that adequate financial and technical support should be given to roof photovoltaic installers, and financing plans should be provided to small and medium-sized enterprises and low-income families to reduce the capital expenditure investment in solar systems.

According to SolarPower Europe, at present, seven EU countries have mandatory regulations on solar energy for renovated buildings, and nine countries have mandatory regulations on solar energy installation for new buildings.
