Portugal produced 172.5 GWh of electricity from renewable sources on Friday and Saturday. This included 97.6 GWh of wind power, 68.3 GWh of hydroelectricity and 6.6 GWh of photovoltaics. After using 131.1 GWh of electricity for its own use, it exported the remainder to Spain.

Over the weekend, Portugal relied solely on renewable energy sources to meet its electricity needs, particularly wind and hydroelectricity. Between Friday night and Monday morning, a total of 172.5 GWh of electricity was generated and 131.1 GWh consumed from renewable sources.

This included 97.6 GWh of wind power, 68.3 GWh of hydroelectric power and 6.6 GWh of photovoltaic power, while surplus power was also exported to Spain, taking advantage of favourable weather conditions.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Portugal has 16,329 MW of installed renewable energy capacity, of which 7,500 MW comes from hydroelectricity, around 5,500 MW from wind and around 2,536 MW from photovoltaics.

In August, Portugal's Ministry of Environment issued 5 GW of grid-connection licences, mainly for PV projects. All selected projects are expected to be operational by 2030.
